My surprise was of the greatest, upon seeing the son of Reysset, who delivered your letter to me; but no money. I was very far from thinking that this individual would make the journey to Grenoble, only to tell me that his father could not promise me my payment, except for the month of September next, an evasion which every year the father Reysset uses several times and with which, I think, he wishes to lead me on until eternity.

You must remember, that I told you in my previous letter, that it was infinitely important to me to finish these affairs, before undertaking others; and the formalities to arrive at a payment, this legal process must be all the better commenced without delay, as they are longer, as you indicate to me in your preceding letter. I therefore reiterate to you the request that I made to you previously, assuring you of all the gratitude that will be had for you by

I beg you to take exact information on the account of Reynaud

I must go within three weeks to Chatillon, as I have just told the son of Reysset; and if he has not paid you then, for me, I will not leave this country until after having commenced proceedings against him: This is what I beg you to tell Reysset, if he presents himself again at your place without money.
The son of Reysset told me, that Jean Reynaud of Borne, would obligate himself jointly and severally or would serve as Guarantor; If Reynaud is well and surely solvent and if he wishes to make himself Guarantor, or to obligate himself jointly and severally, renouncing the benefits of division and discussion, you will be able to make him consent to an obligation, for all that is due to me with interest at 7 percent payable on the first of September next: it is still necessary to make Reynaud pay the costs of the deed, I do not want to make advances
