J'ai reçu avec satisfaction v/ honorée du 16. court. et je vous remercie
bien de m'avoir marqué les prix de v/ Absinthes, dont je veux bien faire un
petit essai pour ouvrir correspondance avec v/ honorable maison à intérêt
réciproque.
Depuis 30. ans que je suis au commerce je fais mes opérations par
comptant, pour ne pas y plus penser, et parce que mon premier intérêt
c'est l'escompte qu'on me doit.
Ainsi je pratique avec tous indistinctement, et fais le même dans les
commissions qui me sont données. Cela pour votre règle.
Désirant connaître la qualité de v/ Absinthe, je v/ autorise d'envoyer pour
mon compte et péril, par le moyen que vous croirez le plus prompt et
utile pour moi, N.o 2. fûts d'Absinthe de 150. à 200. litres chacun, en double
fût.
Je vous ferais le remboursement avec papier sur Paris aussitôt reçue
la march.se, et comme je marquerai le jour de l'expédition, au lieu du
3. % d'escompte, je serai à vous défalquer les jours qui seront nécessaires
pour vous faire parvenir le remboursement.
J'espère que la qualité sera bonne et que m'animera à plus fortes com-
missions, que je m'empresserai à vous faire; et maintenant, avec le désir
de vous lire, je vous fais mes salutations distinctes.

I was pleased to receive your honoured letter of the 16th instant, and I thank you very much for quoting the prices of your absinthes. I would like to make a small trial order in order to establish business relations with your respected house for our mutual benefit.
During the thirty years that I have been in business, I have conducted my transactions for cash, so that I need give them no further thought and because the discount due to me is my first consideration.
I follow this practice with everyone without distinction, and do the same for the commissions entrusted to me. This is for your guidance.
Wishing to ascertain the quality of your absinthe, I authorize you to send, for my account and at my risk, by whatever means you consider fastest and most advantageous for me, two casks of absinthe containing 150 to 200 litres each, in double casks.
I shall reimburse you with a bill payable in Paris as soon as the merchandise is received; and since I shall record the date of dispatch, instead of the three-per-cent discount I shall deduct the number of days required for the reimbursement to reach you.
I hope the quality will be good and will encourage me to place larger orders, which I shall hasten to send you. For now, hoping to hear from you, I offer you my distinguished salutations.
