Letter from Robt. Buchanan to Otard Dupuy & Co concerning an accepted draft and a possible brandy cargo for Canada, 1835-07-09

Robt. Buchanan returns an accepted draft on Thomas Anderson & Son and advises Otard Dupuy & Co that a brandy cargo for the Canadian market may sell if it reaches Scotland before mid-August. He recommends chartering directly to Port Glasgow because its landing and warehouse charges are lower than Greenock's.

Dear Sirs
Referring to my
respects of the 24th & 29th ulto. I now beg to
hand you herewith the enclosed your dft on
Thomas Anderson & Son of £51.6.9 accepted.
As it is probable that a greater quantity
of Brandy will be wanted for Canada this year
than what has been a heavily purchased for him-
-tily as the supply of Rum here is likely to be
short this season. - I am of opinion that a Car-
-go could be readily disposed of for shipment
provided it be here before the middle of next
month - say the 15th of August - but on no ac-
-count to be later otherwise it may remain over
till Spring. - Should you think of sending
such a Cargo I would beg to recommend your
rather chartering the vessel specially for
Port Glasgow (a small sea port Town situated
