Mon cher ami

Je credite nos Cousine Duret et chomel de 92f 50
pour le café que tu m'adresse, et te previens que je ne
l'ai point encore reçu vois le voiturier a qui tu l'as
Remis pour Savoir ce qu'il est devenu. le 2e ballot
de Duret que tu as adressé a maryoli et qui contenait
quelque livre de Chocolat est Resté plus d'un mois
chez un épicier faute d'adresse c'est le hazard qui
me fit aller chèz cet épicier ou je vis un balot
marqué FD. et je lui demande a qui il appetenait
que c'etait ma marque il me dit qu'on lui avait
aporté ce balot. qu'il l'avait ouvert et vu que
ce n'etait pas pour lui. J'en parlai a marie qui
le croyait perdu.
a l'avenir si v/ expédiez par un voiturier
de grenoble adressez la lettre de voiture a mr
Baratin freres avec prière de me faire remettre
Rien de particulier a te dire si mon que nous
sommes Bien pressés de nos chandelle Duret n'en
n'avons pas une. nous usons des chandelles
de voiron qui m'empoisonnent et qui fument c'est[...]
étouffée et n'eclairent pas. presse chapui de
nous les adresser ou j'en demanderai a lyon
adieu je t'embrasse ainsi que ta femme

English translation

Voiron, November 27, 1838

My dear friend

I am crediting our cousins Duret and Chomel with 92f 50
for the coffee that you are sending me, and I warn you that I have
not received it yet see the carter to whom you have
given it to find out what has become of it. the 2nd bale
from Duret that you addressed to Maryoli and which contained
a few pounds of chocolate stayed for more than a month
at a grocer's for lack of an address it is chance that
made me go to this grocer where I saw a bale
marked FD. and I asked him to whom it belonged
that it was my mark he told me that someone had
brought him this bale. that he had opened it and seen that
it was not for him. I told Marie about it who
thought it was lost.
in the future if you/ send by a carter
from Grenoble address the waybill to Mr
Baratin brothers with a request that it be delivered to me
Nothing in particular to tell you if not that we
are in a great hurry for our Duret candles we
don't have a single one. we are using candles
from Voiron which poison me and which smoke it is [...]
stifling and do not light. hurry Chapui to
send them to us or I will ask for some in Lyon
farewell I embrace you as well as your wife
and your daughter
