te voila donc bien gros bien gras, bien frais mieux
que tu n'as Jamais été, & gueri enfin. Je t'en fais mon compliment
ainsi qua ta femme, quoi quun peu Jaloux que dans nos vieux
ans tu sois plus beau que moi, si Jen crois notre amie, mais
enfin Je te cede toutes mes pretentions & meme me trouve
heureux de pouvoir t'en faire mon Compliment
Rien de particulier a te dire sur l'affaire de
Mrs De Latre, les choses en sont toujours au meme
point ; cependant nous savons par Mde. Coste
que le Mr. accompagné de sa mere est allé faire une
visite a Mde [Carlets?] & lui ont annoncé quils allaient
venir vous voir. le temps affreux quil fait [passage incertain]
les ont empeché sans doute de venir, mais sans
doute ils ne tarderont pas.
Ci joint une lettre d'un Mr Jacquemet [mot incertain]
fais moi le plaisir de t'enquerir [s'il est indiqué?] &
ce quil demande & de me l'adresser en me donnant
la notte de tes deboursés.

Voiron, 3 April 1839

My brother,

Here you are, then, very stout, well-fed and looking fresh—better than you have ever been—and finally recovered. I congratulate you, and your wife as well. Although I am a little jealous that in our old age you are more handsome than I am, if our friend is to be believed, I yield all my claims and am happy to congratulate you.

There is nothing particular to tell you about the De Latre affair; things remain at the same point. We have nevertheless learned from Mme Coste that the gentleman, accompanied by his mother, went to visit Mme [Carlets?] and told her that they intended to come and see you. The dreadful weather [phrase uncertain] has doubtless prevented them from coming, but they will no doubt not delay.

Enclosed is a letter from a Mr Jacquemet [word uncertain]. Please make inquiries about him—[whether he is known or recommended?]—and what he is asking, and send it to me together with a note of your expenses.

Farewell, dear friend. I embrace you, as well as my sister and the little one.
