mon cher ami, Bien que je prépa mon
départ de la prée, il se fit encor un quart
d'heure trop tard; Babet fut fatiguée
une partie de la route, elle eut plusieur
crises de nerfs, et de nuit au tir la anivad,
elle a peu dormi, mais a été moins agitée
et aujourd'huy elle est asés bien malgré
son chagrin.
Je ne te dis rien de tout ce que j'ai
eprouvé dans cette triste journée, il a été
heureux pour tous que le Bon et cher
cousin Dinet se trouva la, dans cette
pénible circonstance, pour donner a ce
pauvre Vincent et à ses enfants les
consolation dont ils avoient bessoin, 
il m'en a Bien couté d'etre obligé
de les quitter si Brusquement.
je te repete que ma femme a été asés
bien toute la journée
La crainte de manquer le courrier
ne me laisse que le tems de t'embraser.

My dear friend, Although I prepared my departure from La Prée, it still happened a quarter of an hour too late; Babet was tired for part of the journey, she had several nervous breakdowns, and at night at the shooting she arrived, she slept little, but was less agitated and today she is quite well despite her sorrow.
I will not tell you anything about everything I experienced on this sad day, it was fortunate for everyone that the good and dear cousin Dinet was there, in this painful circumstance, to give to this poor Vincent and to his children the consolation they needed, it cost me a great deal to be obliged to leave them so abruptly.
I repeat to you that my wife was quite well all day.
The fear of missing the mail only leaves me time to embrace you.
