[Dernières nouvelles], mon cher oncle.

[Le malade] a fait quelques progrès. La nuit a été bonne; la langue est toujours un peu moins rouge, la toux [va mieux]. Pendant toute la journée, son état a été bon. [Une phrase concernant sa respiration demeure indistincte.] Il a pris deux ou trois fois du bouillon léger, qu'il supporte bien et qu'il prend avec grand plaisir; il le trouve très bon. Tout va [aussi bien qu'on peut l'espérer].

Je t'embrasse de bon cœur.

J'enverrai un de ces jours à ma tante Lucie quelques pieds d'artichauts que Louis m'avait demandés lors de sa visite. J'en avais déjà parlé samedi dernier à Bresson, le commerçant, qui m'avait promis de les prendre demain; mais il m'a été impossible de les faire expédier. Espérons pour son prochain voyage. Si tu en veux dès le mois de mai, je crois en avoir assez.

[The patient] has made some progress. The night was good; his tongue is still a little less red and the cough [is better]. His condition was good throughout the day. [A sentence about his breathing remains indistinct.] He took light broth two or three times, tolerated it well and drank it with great pleasure; he finds it very good. Everything is going [as well as can be hoped].

I embrace you warmly.

One of these days I shall send Aunt Lucie some artichoke plants that Louis asked me for during his visit. I had already spoken last Saturday to Bresson, the merchant, who had promised to take them tomorrow, but I was unable to have them sent. Let us hope it can be done on his next journey. If you want some from May onwards, I believe I have enough.
