j'ai bien recu en leur temps, mon cher ami,
ta lettre des 8 et 19 ct les nouvelles que tu
me donne de vos santés m'ont fait plaisir;
les douleurs de tete qu'eprouve Babet tenant
a son age doivent vous laisser sans
inquiétude, et puis qu'elles sont moins fortes
elles se dissiperont a mesure que nous
approcherons du beau temps. Tu continue
de venir a annonay chaque jour
aye bien soin, mon ami, de te garantir
du froid et surtout de l'humidité.
ici nous allons tous bien et moi aussi
en restant constamment aupres de mon
feu.
j'apprend avec peine qu'ennui parait
gagner francois; il sait bien que les grades
ne s'obtiennent, quelques soient les protections,
qu'après un an de fonction. je ne puis croire
que celle de M. Boissy d'anglas lui manque!
il est bien que tu l'aie recommandé à
notre cousin tavernier, bien certainement
il fera pour ton fils tout ce qu'il dépendra
de lui. j'attend une reponse de francois

I received in due time, my dear friend, your letter of the 8th and 19th inst. The news you give me of your health gave me pleasure; the headaches that Babet is experiencing, owing to her age, should leave you without worry, and since they are less strong they will dissipate as we approach the good weather. You continue to come to Annonay every day, take good care, my friend, to protect yourself from the cold and especially from the dampness.
Here we are all doing well and me too, staying constantly near my fire.
I learn with sorrow that boredom seems to be overtaking François; he knows well that ranks are not obtained, whatever the protections may be, until after a year of service. I cannot believe that that of Mr. Boissy d'Anglas is lacking for him! It is good that you recommended him to our cousin Tavernier, very certainly he will do for your son everything that depends on him. I am waiting for an answer from François

P.S. I receive your letter of the 20th containing 687.10 francs that you remit to me for Duclot & Houel which are credited to you. If you had any bills on St Etienne or Paris, due between now and the current February and it suited you to hand them over to me, you can send them to me.
Attached is a money order for 800 francs due the 31st of this month to the order of Madame Xavier to whom I ask you to remit, in payment of one year's interest, falling due on the 31st of the said month.
