Mon très cher Père

Je t'envoie une lettre de Vincent qui te detruira toute
l'illusion que t'avais fait la precedente je n'aurais jamais cru
qu'il m' eut retiré sa parole si vite surtout après ce qu'on lui
avait dit de Vincent ... enfin esperons qu'il ne tardera pas à etre
plus heureux. J'ai reçu la semaine passé mon paquet de linge
Charly m'a aussi remis le paquet qu'on lui avait donné
pour moi. Desrues ne m'a pas encore répondu. je remercie
Elisabeth de sa lettre et la prie de me donner très souvent
de ses nouvelles, elle me fera beaucoup de plaisir. adieu je
t'embrasse de tout mon coeur ainsi que la mere et la soeur

My very dear Father

I am sending you a letter from Vincent which will destroy all
the illusion that the previous one had given you. I would never have believed
that he would have gone back on his word to me so quickly, especially after what he had been
told about Vincent... well, let's hope he won't delay in being
happier. I received my package of linen last week.
Charly also gave me the package that had been given to him
for me. Desrues has not answered me yet. I thank
Elisabeth for her letter and beg her to give me her news very often,
it will give me much pleasure. Farewell, I
embrace you with all my heart, as well as mother and sister.
