Mes très chers parents

Puisque je ne puis me procurer cette année le plaisir de vous aller
voir pour vous exprimer de vive voix mes souhaits de bonne
année et vous montrer combien je suis reconnaissant de toutes les
bontés que vous avez pour moi, je n'ai plus que la triste ressource
de vous écrire ; je vous souhaite à tous une année aussi bonne que
vous pouvez la désirer et surtout une bonne santé j'ai vu avec
beaucoup de plaisir dans votre dernière lettre que le père continuoit
à bien se porter j'espère que cet état durera longtems. Je pense que
la pauvre babet va mieux et qu'elle n'attendra pas le printems prochain
pour se rétablir entierement Je la charge de vous embrasser de ma part
elle pourra mieux que personne vous exprimer combien je vous aime, je
lui recommande de s'acquitter fidèlement de cette commission. qu'il est
pénible d'être éloigné des personnes que l'on aime pour rester auprès
de celles qui ne prennent aucun interêt à vous.

Je vous prie de souhaiter la bonne année de ma part à la tante et
aux cousins ainsi qu'à tous nos parents

My very dear parents

Since I cannot procure for myself this year the pleasure of going to see you to express to you in person my wishes for a good year and to show you how grateful I am for all the kindnesses you have for me, I have nothing left but the sad resource of writing to you; I wish you all a year as good as you can desire it and especially good health. I saw with much pleasure in your last letter that father continued to be well, I hope that this state will last a long time. I think that poor Babet is doing better and that she will not wait for next spring to recover entirely. I charge her with kissing you on my behalf, she will be able better than anyone to express to you how much I love you, I recommend to her to acquit herself faithfully of this commission. How painful it is to be far from the people one loves in order to stay near those who take no interest in you.

Farewell I kiss you all with all my heart

I beg you to wish a good year on my behalf to my aunt and to my cousins as well as to all our relatives
