J'ai bien reçu ta dernière lettre avec plaisir, et je t'en
remercie je suis très content que ta santé se soutienne
et qu'il y ait un petit mieux. J'espère qu'il se soutiendra, &
même qu'augmenter, et que le printemps achevera de te
remettre. J'espère aussi que ma mère et ma soeur continuent
à se bien porter. J'ai appris avec chagrin la mort de
ma tante, et que mon oncle avait été malade, je
pense que sa convalescence que tu m'annonçais aura
continuée et qu'à l'heure qu'il est, il est rétabli. Lorsque tu
lui écriras dis lui la part que j'ai pris à ses souffrances
et je lui écris en même temps qu'à toi pour
m'informer de sa santé. je pense que mon oncle Simon
dont tu ne me parlais pas continue à se bien porter
Depuis ma dernière, je suis allé le dimanche 1er
avril faire un tour à Paris tant pour y toucher
les 30 f dont je t'avais parlé que pour tacher d'y voir
Mons. Boissy dans la rue de Sèvres, chez qui j'allais
plusieurs fois sans pouvoir le rencontrer. je profitai
de ce que je pouvais obtenir la permission, ce qui
est très difficile a obtenir, vu qu'il y a toujours quelqu'un

I received your last letter with pleasure, and I thank you for it. I am very glad that your health is holding up and that there is a little improvement. I hope it will hold up, and even increase, and that the spring will finish restoring you. I also hope that my mother and sister continue to be well. I learned with sorrow of the death of my aunt, and that my uncle had been ill. I think that his convalescence, which you announced to me, will have continued and that by now he is recovered. When you write to him tell him the part I took in his sufferings and I am writing to him at the same time as to you to inquire about his health. I think that my uncle Simon, of whom you did not speak to me, continues to be well.

n'aurais jamais cru que ce fut si grand. J'y passai le
temps que je n'étais pas à mes courses avec le Sergent
Ferray de Mauve qui m'avait donné une lettre de
recommandation pour un de ses amis.
Depuis une 8ne de jours je suis passé au bataillon
c'est à dire que je ne vais plus à l'exercice avec les recrues mais
je vais manoeuvrer avec le bataillon. jusqu'à présent
je suis content de mon état. mon capitaine et mon
commandant (chef de bataillon) me l'on dit, et ce dernier à
qui je n'ai nullement été recommandé par qui que ce
soit me dit particulièrement jeudi passé, où j'allai chez
lui pour affaire, me dit qu'il était content de moi que
je faisais bien mon service tant de fusilier que de
fonctionnaire fourrier, et qu'il tacherait de me faire

It may be that we will leave here between the 15th and 20th to go either to Rueil, St Cloud, St Denis, Vincennes, or another place near Paris, where one receives the high pay that we do not have in Versailles.
I dined yesterday with Madame Simbard, who asked me to convey many kind regards to my mother and [to say] that they are well.
Madame Fourrel told me that Mr. Jacquier, former associate of her late son, had told her that Etienne was married or that if he was not he was on the verge of doing so, which I did not believe since every year they marry him off and he is still a bachelor.
