Mon cher ami

nous sommes tous ici dans l'affliction
nous venons de perdre made fargeon la
mere. elle est décedée hier . jugé de
la douleur de mes petits Enfants . je ferai
mes efforts pour adoucir leur chagrin,
et pour que leur santé ne soit point
alterée de cet Evenemt . leur Etat
actuel est aussi bon que leur situation
le permet .
Donné moi de vos nouvelles
et ppalement de la petite babet .
Excuse ma briéveté

Nîmes, this 8th of November 1838

My dear friend

We are all here in affliction
we have just lost Madame Fargeon the
mother. She passed away yesterday. Judge
the grief of my grandchildren. I will make
my efforts to soothe their sorrow,
and so that their health is not at all
altered by this event. Their current state
is as good as their situation
allows.
Give me your news
and principally of little Babet.
Excuse my brevity
I have a quantity of letters to
