Mon cher ami.

Vincent m'écrit de Vouron, que tu vas
mieux. je m'en rejouis, esperant bien
que tu me le confirmeras par la pre.
lettre que tu m'écriras. je ne saurai trop
te recommander de te menager, et
surtout dans la saison ou nous
sommes de te preserver de catare.
J'ai payé aujourd'hui seulemt.
ton 2eme effet. on ne me l'avait
pas encore presenté.
Je suis entré ainsi que mes
Commis dans nos nouveaux bureaux.
il reste bien encore quelques choses
a terminer. tels que rampes
d'escalier &c &c mais enfin
nous sommes logé. le reste se
perfectionnera avec le Tems.

Nîmes this 3 November 1840
My dear friend,

Vincent writes to me from Vouron that you are doing better. I am delighted by this, hoping very much that you will confirm it for me in the first letter that you write to me. I cannot recommend too highly that you take care of yourself, and especially in the season we are in, to protect yourself from catarrh.
I paid your 2nd bill today only. It had not yet been presented to me.
I have moved into our new offices, as have my clerks. There are indeed still a few things to finish, such as stair handrails, etc., etc., but finally we are housed. The rest will be perfected with time.

If it would tire you to write to me: I pray my sister, or your daughter my niece, to give me news of you, I would be worried not to receive any.
My children are well and say many things to you all. My health is holding up. I am still every day the first at the office and the last to close it.
The full extent of the harm caused by the flood is not yet known. The Rhône, which overturned the embankments, has made a bed for itself and a [ruin?] in the plains which it has filled with water.

My regards and kisses to all the members of the family, — particularly to the Doctor our cousin. Take care of yourself first and foremost,
