Je m'étois flatté, mon cher ami, que ta femme serait [passage unclear]
du voyage de Vincent, et me faisais une fête de vous avoir tous deux. [Passage unclear.]
Vincent nous a quittés hier pour retourner à Voiron ;
il avoit reçu le matin de bonnes nouvelles de sa femme.
Mathieu nous quitta à Seynouret avec un violent mal aux dents ;
je désire bien apprendre qu'il en est délivré. Avant-hier soir,
j'en ai souffert beaucoup ; heureusement ça n'a pas duré.
Tes vers montent aujourd'hui ; ils avoient bien [réussi], ce qui vous
donnera une bonne récolte, mais tu avois la crainte de manquer
de feuille. Heureusement elle n'est pas chère cette année. Tes
vers ayant été mis bien en bouche, ont dû faire
une plus grande consommation. Ici, les vers sont générale-
ment au mûr ; ils montent seulement. Ceux d'Olivet ont
été désarbrés ce matin, la grosse partie, car nous
en avons de deux onces d'âges différents, que l'on délivrera
demain. Ces deux onces sont graine achetée d'Avignon et il y en
a une once à cocons blancs très beaux dont nous fournit
[name unclear] et que nous savons filer comme les jaunes.
Je te conseille de faire filer les tiens, et s'il te convient de
les prendre au prix que je vendrai les jaunes de [name unclear],
j'ai les coconniers ; il faudrait me le dire de suite par ton
premier courrier. Et dans le cas où tu vendrais les tiens, vois
s'il serait possible de prendre des nôtres au même prix.
Il y en a la valeur d'une once qui ont bien réussi.

P.S. Je réfléchis que mes cocons pourraient bien ne pas être d'un aussi
beau blanc que ceux d'Annonay, et ne pas convenir ; ainsi je
ne te propose pas.

Tournon, 10 June 1840

I had flattered myself, my dear friend, that your wife would [passage unclear]
on Vincent's journey, and I looked forward to having you both. [Passage unclear.]
Vincent left us yesterday to return to Voiron; that morning he had received good news from his wife.
Mathieu left us at Seynouret with a violent toothache; I very much hope to hear that he has been relieved of it. The night before last I suffered greatly from one; fortunately it did not last.
Your silkworms are mounting today; they had [done well], which will give you a good harvest, but you feared running out of mulberry leaves. Fortunately they are not expensive this year. Your worms, having fed well, must have consumed more. Here the worms are generally mature and are only now mounting. Most of those at Olivet were taken off the branches this morning. We have batches from two ounces of seed, of different ages, which will be dealt with tomorrow. These two ounces came from seed bought in Avignon; one ounce has produced very fine white cocoons supplied by [name unclear], and we know how to reel them like the yellow ones.
I advise you to have yours reeled. If it suits you to take them at the price for which I sell the yellow ones from [name unclear], I have the cocoon workers; you would have to tell me at once by your first courier. If you sell yours, see whether it would be possible to take ours at the same price. There is about one ounce's worth and they have done very well.

P.S. On reflection, my cocoons might not be as fine a white as those from Annonay and might not suit you; I therefore do not offer them to you.
