J'apprends avec peine par ta lettre du 31, qui ne m'est
parvenue qu'hier, mon cher ami, que tu as ressenti
de nouvelles douleurs d'estomac. Tu espérais quelque
soulagement des applications de sangsues ; je désire
bien que tu me le confirmes au plus tôt.

Tu ne me dis rien d'Élisabet, ce qui me fait croire
qu'elle se porte bien maintenant.

François est de retour de Voiron ; tu as ainsi plusieurs
de tes enfants auprès de toi. C'est ta félicité ; c'est un grand bonheur
d'être entouré de ses enfants. Il ne manque que Vincent ;
tu en as sans doute de bonnes nouvelles.

Tu nous annonces tous bien. J'ai toujours le projet
d'aller avec mes femmes au mariage de notre neveu
Étienne, [passage concernant la date du contrat partiellement illisible],
qui devait avoir lieu le 11. Et nous partirons [passage illisible]
pour arriver [passage illisible] samedi à Annonay.
Il est incertain si Vincent pourra venir ; s'il n'arrive

Elles viennent m'annoncer que ton Victor étoit de
retour après un grand voyage avec M. Bernard et que
Laure étoit retournée à Riva, de Gênes, avec son mari,
qui étoit venu la chercher.

Tu veux bien t'occuper des abreuvoirs pour mes
pigeons ; je t'en remercie. Je chargerai notre domestique
de les prendre quand je saurai que tu les auras.

P.S. J'avois toujours cru que l'effet de M. Chabanes
de f. 2125.30 avoit été [escompté ?], payé et porté à votre crédit à
l'échéance du 15 8bre. Quant à celui de f. 150.95 sur Vernong,
celui fin 8bre que contenait ta lettre du 12, je n'ai pas encore reçu
l'avis de payement. J.

I learn with sorrow from your letter of the 31st, which reached me only yesterday, my dear friend, that you have again suffered stomach pains. You hoped for some relief from applications of leeches; I very much hope that you will confirm this to me as soon as possible.

You say nothing about Élisabet, which makes me believe that she is well now.

François has returned from Voiron, so you now have several of your children with you. That is your happiness; it is a great joy to be surrounded by one's children. Only Vincent is absent; you doubtless have good news of him.

You tell us that everyone is well. I still plan to go with the women of my household to the wedding of our nephew Étienne. [The passage about the date of the contract is partly illegible.] It was to take place on the 11th. We shall leave [passage illegible] in order to reach Annonay on Saturday [passage illegible]. It is uncertain whether Vincent can come; if he does not arrive on Sunday, we shall nevertheless leave on Monday morning. Please tell me whether there has been any change.

Today I have good news from Briançon. It tells me that your Victor had returned after a long journey with M. Bernard, and that Laure had returned to Riva from Genoa with her husband, who had come to fetch her.

P.S. I had always believed that M. Chabanes's draft for 2,125.30 francs had been [discounted?], paid and credited to your account when it fell due on 15 October.
