ta lettre du 4 me parvint hier bien tard, mon cher
jean marie, pour que je pusse te temoigner tout
le plaisir que m'avoit fait la bonne nouvelle
du mieux qu'éprouve françois; cette amelioration,
sensible dans son état, fait presager une prompte
coulatesse [sic] s'il suit exactement exactement
les prescriptions du medecin et ne fait aucune
imprudence..
ce n'est pas de quelques temps, qu'il pourra
supporter le voyage, pour gerer de remettre
il faudra en obtenir l'autorisation, d'abord
du medecin et puis de ses chefs, je vais écrire
à Mr. Boifuy douglas, pour lui faullita [sic] les moyens
d'obtenir un congé le plus long possible.
tu a bien fait de consulter M. luy [sic] Lyon
pour savoir s'il est convenable que charles aille
joindre son frere. il pourra en effet convenir
qu'il puisse l'accompagner lorsqu'il viendra mais
en attendant, je ne vois pas que sa présence
puisse etre necessaire tant qu'il est à l'hopital,
où qu'il serait difficile à charles, d'obtenir
la permission d'etre constamment auprès de son frere.

Your letter of the 4th reached me very late yesterday, my dear Jean Marie, for me to be able to express to you all the pleasure that the good news of the improvement experienced by François has given me; this noticeable improvement in his condition bodes well for a prompt convalescence if he strictly follows the doctor's prescriptions and commits no imprudence..
It will not be for some time that he will be able to endure the journey; in order to manage his return, it will be necessary to obtain authorization, first from the doctor and then from his superiors. I am going to write to Mr. Boifuy Douglas, to facilitate the means for him to obtain as long a leave as possible.
You did well to consult Mr. [Luy / Lyon] to find out whether it is appropriate for Charles to go join his brother. It may indeed be suitable for him to be able to accompany him when he comes, but in the meantime, I do not see that his presence can be necessary as long as he is in the hospital, where it would be difficult for Charles to obtain permission to be constantly near his brother.
