Mon cher ami

Je suis bien faché d'etre privé de
vous embrasser, mais il m'a été impossible
de me rendre a annonay je suis pressé
de me rendre a voiron ou il faut que
je sois rendu Mercredi prochain le matin
j'ai une asses peine que tu n'aies pu
venir passer le dimanche avec nous, si je
l'avais prevu je serais allé avec mathieu
coucher vendredy chez toi et serais
revenu le samedi, je voulais partir
ce soir mon frere s'y est oposé, je
partirai demain matin.

adieu embrasse bien ta femme et les
enfants ecrit moi a voiron et dis moi
si les vers vont bien je t'embrasse

Tournon, June 8, 1840

My dear friend,

I am very sorry to be deprived of embracing you, but it was impossible for me to go to Annonay. I am in a hurry to go to Voiron where I must be by next Wednesday morning.
I have quite a sorrow that you could not come spend Sunday with us. If I had foreseen it, I would have gone with Mathieu to sleep at your place on Friday and would have returned on Saturday. I wanted to leave this evening, my brother opposed it; I will leave tomorrow morning.

Farewell, kiss your wife and children well, write to me at Voiron and tell me if the silkworms are doing well, I embrace you.
