Mon père il ya bien longtems que je
ne t'ai pas écrit mais tu m'excusera
quand tu sauras q il ya 15 jours
que je suis malade à chambre et qu[e]
que pendant ces quinze jours je n'ai
pas quitté le lit j'etais toujours fatigué
Lorsque je l'essaye le Chirurgien
Major du Regiment m'envoie aujourd'hui
à l'hopital, on m'a fait éspérer
que je sortirais dans 12 ou 15 jours
au plus tard, bien guéri de mes grands
maux de tête de coliques devoiement
continuelle et de beaucoup de fievre
Je crains que vous ne soyez tous
bouleversés par cette lettre et ce n'est
qu'à regret que je vous l'écris, votre
inquietude me fait trop de mal et augmente
ma fièvre

Paris, 20 April 1839

My father, it has been a long time since I
wrote to you, but you will excuse me
when you know that I have been sick in my room for 15 days
and that during these fifteen days I have not
left my bed, I was always tired
when I tried it. The Chief Surgeon
of the Regiment sends me today
to the hospital, they gave me hope
that I will come out in 12 or 15 days
at the latest, well cured of my great
headaches, colic, continuous diarrhea
and of a lot of fever.
I fear that you will all be
upset by this letter and it is only
with regret that I write it to you, your
anxiety hurts me too much and increases
my fever.
