Era qualche giorno che l'Ama.ta nra Madre, tanta
buona e preveniente, m'aveva consigliato di
scrivere a casa dandovi le mie nuove, ma io
aveva preso dilazione ancora p[er] qualche gior=
=no; ed ecco che ierj sono stata prevenuta
d'una cordialissima tua, della quale te ne
ringrazio tanto delle prove continue di bontà
a mio riguardo, e p[er] cui il mio cuore ti è sem=
=pre riconoscente e grato, molto più avanti
a Dio. In quant'alla nuova elezione della
nra Superiora Essa ci è stata confermata;
grazia grande che il Signore ci fece a ques=
=ta Comunità; p[er] tanto con noi, cara Sorella,
ringraziane Iddio. Essa ti invia p[er] mezzo della
Posta la circolare, che p[er] farti piacere non
guarda ad incomodo alcuno.
La mia salute grazia a Dio ora sto bene, ma nei
giorni scorsi sono stata obbligata qualche
giorno a letto, e una grande debolezza di stomaco
che sento, in maniera che alle volte perdo
quasi la voce; ma pazienza sia fatta la volon=

From our monastery in Soresina
10 June 1860
It had been several days since our beloved Mother, so kind and considerate, advised me to write home and give you my news, but I had put it off for a few more days; and then yesterday your most cordial letter reached me first. I thank you very much for the continual proofs of kindness toward me, for which my heart is always grateful to you, even more so before God. As for the new election of our Superior, she has been confirmed for us—a great grace the Lord has bestowed on this community. Therefore, dear sister, thank God for it with us. She is sending you the circular by post; to please you, she does not mind the trouble.
As for my health, thanks be to God, I am well now, but during the past days I had to spend some time in bed. I feel a great weakness of the stomach, so that at times I nearly lose my voice; but patience: God's will be done. Dear sister, we are in the novena

nro Altare nel Sacramento, tutti i tuoi biso=
=gni e quelli del caro nro Papà li farò tutti
miei e tutti li riporò in Esso Cuore, affin=
=chè Egli ci pensi a tutto e a tutto provveda
e del suo S.mo Amore tutti ci infiammi.
Cara Linda, i caratteri di Papà, mi hanno con=
=solata oltremodo, Esso Te lo raccomando, perche
e i fratelli e tutti vi facciano sempre buo=
=na compagnia, e coronino i suoi giorni di
Vecchiaja di consolazione.
Salutami di cuore la buona nra Regina e
Gaetano pure, al loro bimbo dagli un bacio
p[er] me, non mi stupisco che Esso sia buono
perche la giudiziosa sua Madre non potrebbe le=
=varlo diversamente. Iddio continui sopra di tut=
=ti le sue Benedizioni!
Aggradisci tante cordialità della V.ne nra Madre
da estendersi a tutta la famiglia, ma distintamen=
=te a Papà. Le dette circolari saranno 4 copie, perche
la suddetta nra Madre ha piacere che ne abbia una
Carolina una Peppina ed un altra al C. Antonio. Nel Cuore

Ella non può immaginarsi con quanta consola=
=zione lessi i suoi caratteri, essi mi hanno
proprio inondato il cuore di gioja, grazia
e contento che il Signore mi serba ancora
in su questa terra che non lo merito punto
Sono ben contenta di sentirlo in buona salute
e questo è il voto che giornalmente io so for=
=mare presso il Signore. Car.mo Papà Ella ne
sia persuasa, che malgrado la nra lon=
=tananza, le sue pene le sue Croci io
tutte tutte le divido con Lei; ma il
Signore è tanto buono, che p[er] non fargli p[er]=
=dere il merto grande della pazienza, gli lascia la
tribolazione, ma coraggio! caro Papà, la buona
Linda che ha sempre ai suoi fianchi è p[er]
me un riflesso di gran conforto, perche so come
è capace in tutti gli incontri d'aleviargli
il peso e di radolcire il suo cuore Paterno.
Car.mo Papà, sperava nelle scorse feste di rivederlo
ma non mi fù data questa consolazione, basta
non p[er] questo Ella vorrà scordarmi; Ah! no è nel
cuore Amorosissimo del nro Gesù che noi
dobbiamo sempre trovarsi e quivi vicendevol=

of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and next Friday we shall celebrate it solemnly. On that day of such fervour, since it is always exposed upon our altar in the Sacrament, I shall make all your needs and those of our dear Papa my own and place them all in that Heart, so that He may attend to everything for us and provide for everything, and inflame us all with His most holy love.
Dear Linda, Papa's handwriting has comforted me beyond measure. I entrust him to you, so that you, the brothers and everyone may always keep him good company and crown his old age with consolation.
Give my heartfelt greetings to our good Regina and to Gaetano as well. Give their baby a kiss for me. I am not surprised that he is good, for his sensible mother could not raise him otherwise. May God continue to bestow His blessings upon everyone!
Please accept many warm greetings from our venerable Mother, to be extended to the whole family and especially to Papa. There will be four copies of the said circulars, because our aforementioned Mother wishes Carolina to have one, Peppina one, and another for C. Antonio. In the Heart of Jesus I declare myself your most affectionate sister, Teresa Giuseppa.

My dearest Papa!
You cannot imagine the consolation with which I read your handwriting; it truly flooded my heart with joy, gratitude and contentment that the Lord still preserves you for me upon this earth, although I do not deserve it at all. I am very happy to hear that you are in good health, and this is the prayer I know how to make daily before the Lord. Dearest Papa, be assured that despite our distance, I share all, all your sorrows and your crosses with you. But the Lord is so good that, so as not to make you lose the great merit of patience, He leaves you your tribulation. Take courage, dear Papa. Good Linda, who is always at your side, is for me a source of great comfort, because I know how capable she is in every circumstance of lightening your burden and sweetening your paternal heart.
Dear Papa, I hoped to see you again during the recent holidays, but I was not granted that consolation. Still, you will not want to forget me for that reason. Ah, no! It is in the most loving Heart of our Jesus that we must always meet and there exchange between us the greetings of daughter and father; and in Him once more believe me to be your most obedient, most obedient daughter, S. Teresa Giuseppa.
