La car.ma tua del 20. corrente m'ha sollevato proprio dalla pena in
cui stavo p[er] aver sentito nella penultima tua Lo Stato di
sofferenza delle nre due care Sorelle S.a M.a Carolina, e S.a M.a
Fedele. Ah! cara Linda, sono proprio due anime care a Dio, poichè le fa
abbondantemente parte del suo patire, la Lor Tranquillità, e sommessione in
questo Divin volere è p[er] me di grande edificazione ed ancora di con=
=fusione, mentre io non avrei tanta virtù. Il raccomandartele
mi sembra inutile, poichè conosco assai il tuo buon cuore, e
che quindi, malgrado la tua separazione da Loro, non omette=
=rai nulla in quello che potrai p[er] contribuire al loro ristabilimen=
=to; renditi ben persuasa del che anche del nro caro, ed affettuosis=
=simo Papà; Le di cui prove di bontà segnatamente p[er] le sue figlie

From our Monastery in Pisa
28 July 1855
Your dearest letter of the 20th of this month truly relieved me of the distress
I had felt on hearing in your previous letter about the suffering of
our two dear Sisters, Sister M. Carolina and Sister M.
Fedele. Ah, dear Linda, they are truly two souls dear to God, since He lets them
share so abundantly in His suffering. Their tranquillity and submission to
this Divine will are a great edification to me, and also put me to
shame, since I would not have such virtue. It seems unnecessary to commend them
to you, since I know your good heart well, and know that,
despite being apart from Them, you will omit
nothing that you can do to help their recovery. Be equally assured of this
with regard to our dear and most affectionate Papa; the proofs of goodness he has shown,
especially to his daughters who are still absent, will remain forever in our hearts.
This, dear Linda, can only be a true consolation to me;
in view of it I continually bless the good God,
praying at the same time that He may shower you all with His richest
blessings, especially our dear and worthy
Father and my dear Linda, to whom, more than to all the
others, I owe my affection and gratitude for the great
benefits done to me. For my sake, my Linda, preserve your heal=

p[er] me della più sincera dilezione, e pregale avermi sempre
a cuore segnatamente in questi S.ti giorni, affinchè risorga ancora io, con il
mio Signor Gesù Cristo ad una vita tutta Spirituale. Cara Linda, con=
=fidiamo tanto, nella nra buona Mamma Maria, ed Essa, stanne certa,
che Ti darà la consolazione che tu desideri a vantaggio Spirituale de
tuoi fratelli; come abbastanza ho inteso nell'ultima tua, e tu lo
puoi solo imaginarlo quanto ancora a me sta a cuore!
Riguardo il Dottore Villini nro Cugino digli che presi gran parte al=
=la loro afflizione p[er] lo stato grave di malatia in cui si trova la
povera Enrichetta, ma io spero che il buon Dio p[er] ora non vorrà
esigere un tanto Sacrificio, tuttavia, è duopo di abbandonarsi nella
sua Divina Volontà, e dire un Amoroso Fiat, ed Egli abbondante=
=mente saprà ricompensarli il Sacrificio.
La mia salute grazia a Dio è buona, cosi pure quella della nra Cara
Madre, che ringrazia meco la cara S.a M.a Fedele della bella immagi=
=ne che si tenne presso di noi, p[er] chè memoria tanto gradita.

=th; preserve Papa's health, for the sake of all your
brothers and Sisters. If in some one of them you cannot see a response
to all your motherly care, it is because God will reward you
more abundantly in Paradise, and that reward will be eternal, where we too,
through His mercy, shall all be united together and shall separate still more [as written].
When you see the two aforementioned Sisters again, say many things to them
for me with the sincerest affection, and ask them always to keep me
in their hearts, especially in these holy days, so that I too may rise again with
my Lord Jesus Christ to a wholly Spiritual life. Dear Linda, let us place great
trust in our good Mother Mary; and She, be certain,
will give you the consolation you desire for the Spiritual benefit of
your brothers, as I understood well enough from your last letter; you alone
can imagine how close this also is to my heart!
As for Doctor Villini, our Cousin, tell him that I shared deeply in
their affliction at the grave illness in which
poor Enrichetta finds herself; but I hope that the good God will not yet
demand so great a Sacrifice. Nevertheless, we must abandon ourselves to
His Divine Will and say a loving Fiat, and He will know how to reward them
abundantly for the Sacrifice.
My health, thanks be to God, is good, as is that of our Dear
Mother, who joins me in thanking dear Sister M. Fedele for the beautiful image
which has remained with us, because it is so welcome a remembrance.

Ringrazia Teresina delle due linee che mi diresse [crossed out] mi comprovarono
l'intima sua dilezione; dille però che non sia tanto pigrotta nello scriver=
=mi, e mi raccomandi a Lei. Giuditta sta bene? La sua salute ha bisogno
dei riguardi, già tu più di me, cara Linda, [crossed out] conoscerai il suo
bisogno, e saprai regolarla, p[er] chè io ti tengo p[er] si istruita.
Qui accluso troverai le due Lettere che lessi con commozione sino
alle lagrime, conservale pure p[er] vostro conforto, e sodisfazione,
e p[er] sempre benedire Iddio. Il P. Antonio mi scrisse pur anche
e quantunque non abbia in essa scorto quello che avrei desiderato
mi contento anche di quel poco, purchè non tenga più con me
un sì severo Silenzio. Addio cara Linda, è nel cuore di Gesù che
ti lascio, ed ivi sempre ci troveremo, quale mi dico tua

Our dearest Mother Inspectress always takes an interest in your news and that
of all our family, and therefore joins our Dearest Mother
and our Very Reverend Father Confessor in paying respects to all of you.
Thank Teresina for the two lines she sent me, [crossed out] which proved
her deep affection to me; tell her, however, not to be so lazy about writing
to me, and commend me to Her. Is Giuditta well? Her health requires care;
you, more than I, dear Linda, [crossed out] will understand what she needs
and will know how to regulate it, because I consider you so knowledgeable.
Enclosed here you will find the two Letters that I read with emotion to the point
of tears; keep them for your comfort and satisfaction,
and to bless God always. Father Antonio also wrote to me,
and although I did not find in it what I would have wished,
I am content even with that little, provided that he no longer keeps
so severe a Silence toward me. Farewell, dear Linda; I leave you in the Heart of Jesus,
and there we shall always meet. Thus I remain your
