Car:ma e dilettissima Sorella !
Pensando che tu mi avresti scritto rimasi
in timore che s'incrociassero le mie lettere, e
perciò mi sono proposta di aspettare la tua
avanti d'inviarti un mio foglio. Nel frattem=
po ho compito a tutti i miei doveri a tuo ri=
guardo, e della famiglia e se non vi mandai
in iscritto i miei augurj non furono meno in=
tenti e ve li ho pregati col più vivo inces=
santemente per tutti in generale, e pel Nipotino in
particolare che mi stà in cuore; e non saprei
mai dimenticarvi presso il Signore. Non mi
figurava però che ritardando andavo ad incon=
trare un impreveduto sconcerto che mi inter=
ruppe essendo assalita dall'Influenza la passai
offerendola al Signore anch'essa in vostro van=
taggio. Trovandomi in letto con un salasso
per una leggier indisposizione alla quale ha
già giovato la piccola cura, l'Amad:ma Nstra
Madre non mi vuol permettere che mi esponga
al freddo per scrivere la qual precauzione le fu sug=
gerita più dal suo materno cuore che dal mio
male, che l'assicuro è di poca entità, e non

Dearest and most beloved Sister!
Thinking that you would have written to me, I remained
in fear that my letters would cross paths [with yours], and
therefore I resolved to wait for yours
before sending you a letter of mine. In the mean-
time I have fulfilled all my duties regard-
ing you, and the family, and if I did not send you
my written greetings they were no less in-
tent and I have prayed for you with the most lively and inces-
santly for everyone in general, and for the little Nephew in
particular who is close to my heart; and I could never
forget you before the Lord. I did not
imagine, however, that by delaying I was going to encoun-
ter an unforeseen setback that inter-
rupted me, being attacked by the Flu I passed it
offering it to the Lord also for your bene-
fit. Finding myself in bed with a bloodletting
for a slight indisposition for which the
small cure has already been beneficial, our Most Beloved
Mother does not want to allow me to expose myself
to the cold to write, which precaution was sug-
gested to her more by her maternal heart than by my
illness, which I assure you is of little consequence, and not

volendo d'altronde che ti faccia più oltre
aspettare le mie notizie mi suggerisce
di valermi della cordialità d'una nostra
Sorella per farmi scrivere la lettera, il che
accetto senza difficoltà mentre se vi ha in=
dotto la mia poltroneria non vi perdo il
cuore che si può spandere con egual esten=
sione. Ho passato bene le Sante feste giac=
chè in mezzo all'abbondanza del fervore
di questa car:ma Comunità e di tanti Santi
esercizi tutti propri per animare la fede e
la carità è impossibile che non si sciolga
il gelo; ho fatto voti, suppliche, preghiere,
per tutta la mia diletta famiglia, pel ca=
ro Papà distintamente e per te, che hai
bisogno d'essere aiutata a rendere grazie al
Signore de' Doni del suo amore con cui ti
arricchisce. Che questo Divin fuoco si faccia
sempre più ardente nell'anima tua, e ren=
dila vantaggiata pel quanto ti apparirà
gioia così anch'io avrò la mia parte. Egli
è pur vero diletta Sorella che il Signore è buo=
no, e che grandi sono le sue Misericordie, le
abbiamo esperimentate anche nel passato an=
no con abbondanza; e speriamo che vorrà
continuarle nel progresso di questo novello.

ta colla quale unisco due linee che le devo in
riscontro. Troverai anche un Biglietto per la
Car:ma nra Sorella Maria Carolina.
Quanta pena mi fa la malattia della buona
nra S. Maria Fedele ! Quanto di cuore prego
pel suo ristabilimento ! Mi rallegro col
Carlino, che ti prego di salutare per me
ed anche l'Angiolina.
Siamo benissimo accomodate in questo nuo=
vo ameno Locale, e sentiamo tutti i vantag=
gi che ci garantiscono anche dai rigori
di questo freddissimo Inverno.

wanting moreover to make you wait any longer
for my news suggests to me
to avail myself of the cordiality of one of our
Sisters to have her write the letter for me, which
I accept without difficulty while if my
laziness has induced you [to worry] I do not lose the
heart that can pour itself out with equal ex-
tent. I have passed the Holy holidays well
since in the midst of the abundance of the fervor
of this dearest Community and of so many Holy
exercises all proper to animate faith and
charity it is impossible that the ice does not melt;
I have made vows, supplications, prayers,
for all my beloved family, for dear
Papa distinctly and for you, who need
to be helped to give thanks to the
Lord for the Gifts of his love with which he
enriches you. May this Divine fire become
ever more ardent in your soul, and make
it advantageous for as much as it will appear a
joy so I too will have my part. It is
indeed true beloved Sister that the Lord is good,
and that his Mercies are great, we
have experienced them even in the past
year with abundance; and we hope that he will want
to continue them in the progress of this new one.

What happy news you give me announcing the
birth of my little Nephew, and the happy circumstances
that accompanied it with the prelude that
the assumed task of being his godmother will not be burdensome to you.
I console myself with the well-being of the Sister-in-
law with whom I enclose two lines that I owe her in
response. You will also find a Note for our
Dearest Sister Maria Carolina.
How much pain the illness of our good
Sister Maria Fedele causes me! How heartily I pray
for her recovery! I rejoice with
Carlino, whom I beg you to greet for me
and also Angiolina.
We are very well accommodated in this new
pleasant Premises, and we feel all the advantag-
es that guarantee us even from the rigors
of this very cold Winter.
The Most Beloved Mother, with the whole Community
return cordial greetings to you; which also does
the Very Reverend Sir our Confessor. Give a
million [greetings] to the whole family, and in the Most Amiable heart
of Jesus inseparably united to you I resign

that I will write to you I hope to do it with
my own hand, meanwhile receive the blessing
of our Mother and this is of all our
Sisters
