Ieri soltanto ricevetti la dolorosa notizia della
perdita della nra ben cara Sorella M. Fedele
la quale, se bene mi fosse data con tutta
la massima delicatezza dal nro caritatevole
P. Confessore, pure ti dico il vero; che l'ho
sentita estremamente, credeva di dover fare
questo sagrificio con maggior generosità, essendo
da molto tempo, che Il buon Dio mi andava
preparando; ma haimè la natura vuol il suo
tributo! Sì, cara Linda, adoriamo tuttavia
sempre le disposizioni di Dio, e malgrado
il nro dolore pronunciamo insieme un Amoro=
=so Fiat! Il mio unico e dolce conforto in
tanto dolore, è di una certa sicurezza, che
Essa, cara mia Sorella, sarà di già al possesso della
gloria beata, che Dio dà infallibilmente a
chi p amor suo sostiene coraggiosamente tanto
patire! L'O.ma nra Madre soddisfa con tanto

Only yesterday did I receive the sorrowful news of the loss of our very dear Sister M. Fedele. Although it was given to me with the utmost delicacy by our charitable Father Confessor, I tell you truthfully that I felt it extremely. I believed I should make this sacrifice with greater generosity, since the good God had been preparing me for a long time; but alas, nature demands its tribute! Yes, dear Linda, let us nevertheless always adore God's dispositions and, despite our sorrow, pronounce together a loving Fiat! My only sweet comfort in such sorrow is a certain assurance that she, my dear Sister, will already possess the blessed glory that God infallibly grants to those who courageously sustain so much suffering for His love! Our Mother attends with great diligence and charity to all your requests for Masses and the Office for the deceased; it is easier for you to imagine this than for me to tell it. She shares our sorrow most deeply and, if her duties did not prevent it, she would willingly write to you; as would our Very Reverend Father Confessor, whom I can say is as sensitive as I am to our sacrifice. He is always solicitous in procuring for me

relief and comfort on every occasion. He, together with our aforementioned Mother, greets you from the heart, and they are grateful to you for your charity toward this religious house. Therefore do not doubt that the ever-good Lord will grant your important matter, which you commend to me so often in your letters and which sometimes causes me pain; but come, let us trust in God, who is so good and abandons no one who trusts in Him!
As soon as I have time I shall write to Carolina. Meanwhile you will tell her that I am very glad to hear that she has recovered her health and that she should take care not to fall ill again. I commend myself to her prayers; many greetings also to the whole family.
Now I leave you in the Loving Heart of Jesus and in that of Mary Immaculate, and in Them I call myself

My dear Papa!

The sacrifice that God has exacted from us in the loss of our dearest daughter and Sister has certainly placed you, as it has me, in extreme affliction. But take courage, my dear Papa. Good Peppina was a ripe fruit for Heaven, and the Divine Husbandman came to take her in order to transplant her from this life into a better one and give her the reward that she earned through so much suffering. Therefore, amid our sorrow, let us be consoled that we have one more advocate in Heaven and that she will certainly pray for our entire family and especially for her dear Papa, to whom, after God, we owe all our gratitude. I wish I could be near you in these moments of sorrow, but rest assured, my dear Papa, that despite our distance I share all of it with you, and I pray the Lord, who can do all things, to place that sweet balm upon your paternal heart, which so many hidden thorns wound! But take comfort: good Linda is the gift that God gives you to ease it a little and to share it all gently with you.
