Letter from Valérien Ranc to Louis-Marie Ranc, 4 October 1793

Valérien Ranc sends his brother Louis-Marie an account of papers intended for delivery by Bourgnit, including tax certificates from Sauve, Quissac and Saint-Jean-de-Roque, formal demands involving Pierre, a receipt connected with a niece's marriage contract, and financial papers. nayant recu ainsi que piere, votre lettre en datte du trente
Du mois derniér, quaujourdhùi. jay en consequence, envoyé
tout de suite chercher bourgnit, pour lengagér a vous
allér trouvér demain. je lattends, sil part comme je le
presume, il vous remettra un paquet, contenant, un certificat
relatif aux impositions de sauve, un de la commune de
quissac, et un de celle de st jean de roque, pour le
meme objet, les deux sommations a piere, qui regardent
mon oncle, ainsi que moi, le quitan, qui a raport
au contrat de mariage de ma niece, les billets des
personnes que vous mavis chargé de payér, et une notte
fort mal concue des dits billets, et interets que jay aquité
comme je vous avois déja mandé, ce que javois fait a cet
egard, je navois pas pris grand soin de conserver un etat
precis de ce qui avoit raport au calcul de ce compte, enfin vous
verés si vous pouvés dechifrer ce petit chifon, et adaptér ce
que piere ma remis, avec ce que jay payé, et randu,
comme vous ne maviés encore rien dit, relativement a la taxe

The courier arrived late yesterday, my dear brother, and neither Pierre nor I received your letter dated the thirtieth of last month until today. I consequently sent at once for Bourgnit to urge him to visit you tomorrow. I am waiting for him. If he leaves as I expect, he will deliver a package to you containing a certificate concerning the taxes at Sauve, one from the commune of Quissac, and one from Saint-Jean-de-Roque for the same purpose; the two formal demands served on Pierre, which concern my uncle as well as me; the receipt relating to my niece's marriage contract; the notes belonging to the people you instructed me to pay; and a very poorly prepared account of those notes and the interest I settled. Since I had already told you what I had done in this regard, I had not taken great care to preserve a precise statement of the calculations for this account. At any rate, you will see whether you can decipher this scrap and reconcile what Pierre gave me with what I paid and returned. As you had not yet told me anything about the revolutionary tax,

I cannot send on this occasion what you asked me for in that connection. I shall have it prepared as soon as possible so that I can send it to you shortly. Bourgnit has just left here and assured me that he would depart tomorrow morning; consequently, he will bring you the papers in question that I am enclosing with my letter. Farewell, my dear brother. I am yours for life.
