English translation

Saint-Maurice, 27 July 1858
Sir, I write you this short letter to say that eight days ago I came to you to pay, but I did not have the entire sum. That is why I did not go on to Nyons. Yesterday Mr. [Vignon?] told me that he wished to charge me costs. Please do me the favor of waiting until the end of next September for the whole amount. I would much rather you received the interest than have the money spent on legal costs. The money I had intended to give you was used to pay for a piece of land. Spare me the costs, and I shall be truly grateful. I have the honor to salute you. Jean Aubert fils
