The Cavazza brothers acknowledge two bills of exchange for 2,000 and 600. They credit Pellegrino Padoa with 2,002.90 for the first bill, including the exchange premium, and ask him to give advance notice when bills require payment in 20-franc pieces.

Notes

The contracted payment notation in da 20 f. is retained in the Italian and rendered as payment in 20-franc pieces; no metal or coin issue is identified. The handwritten £ symbol is preserved without imposing a modern pound currency. The surname following Dr. may be Lenzi or Lanzi; the terminal letters of G. Grandi remain slightly uncertain. The small repetition sign after the second name is kept rather than assigned an unsupported expansion.

Bologna, 17 October 1863

We fully confirm the contents of our letter of the 10th of this month. Having received your kind letter of the 14th, we note the bills of exchange you have advised to us, namely:
£2,000 to the order of Dr Lenzi[?] and Co.;
£600 to the order of G. Grandi[?] [ditto];
both to your debit.
The first was presented today. We see that it is payable in 20-franc pieces, which Mr Lenzi[?] could not avoid accepting. We therefore credit you with £2,002.90 for this bill, including the exchange premium. In future, when you issue bills payable in 20-franc pieces, please let us know, to spare us having to correct the entries.
Respectfully yours,
Cavazza Brothers
