ne vennero incettate; [abbreviazione non risolta] però saranno d' £ A 120.— C.to. Siccome mi diceste
d'acquistarvi o la [abbreviazione] Arringhe Gran. [Jafatica?] le Salache; così non
potendo acquistare queste attendo [V?] riscontro e in ogni modo dovrò acquistare
[...to ... totale ...]

Darker vertical reversed writing at the left is show-through from the reply draft on the address side and is not transcribed again. The small sideways account note beside the signature is a separate own-side annotation.
Salacche means cured fish; the species is not established here. The original £ A, B.to, C.to and Gran. abbreviations are retained; the herring variety and some commercial terms remain unread, and paper loss interrupts the almond and following market lines.

Venice, 13 January 1851

Confirming my previous letter of the 10th of this month: as I foresaw, it was not possible to buy cured fish (salacche) at the price you indicated. The holders of the good quality from the first catch now ask £ A 102 B.to. I think I could have obtained some concession, but we are too far from your limit.
Some [unread] cured fish from the second catch have now arrived, but none have yet been bought [unread]; however, their price will be £ A 120 C.to. Since you told me to purchase either [unread] the herrings Gran. [unread] or the cured fish, and as I cannot buy these, I await your reply; in any case I shall have to buy the herrings. The herrings are of fine quality, but their weight is generally low. The price we may expect is £ A 44 C.to.
Almonds from Puglia are currently held at £ A 32 to 34 [unread]. This market is entirely without Endali[?] [unread].
[unread] is in some demand at 17[?], at which price some transactions were made.
I send[?] my respectful greetings to all your family and remain ready to serve you [unread].
Abram Erera

English translation

I received in time your two letters of the 11th and 13th of this month. The first contained [unread] a statement [unread insertion] of Mr Cesare concerning the receipt. Therefore I credit [unread amount] in current currency [deleted: counted?] to my worker [Picatto?], with whom I have come to an understanding [deleted: ... in probable ...].
I am pleased that the rise in cured fish did not allow you to carry out my commission, given the circumstance that several sellers here hold more [lots?], with an incredible stagnation, so that it will produce [a considerable fall?]. Despite all this, I hope soon to be able to give you an account of [unread] dispatched[?]. Meanwhile it would help me if you kept me informed of changes [inserted: in prices], as you have done[?] for herrings. Your cured fish are unsuitable because they are of light weight. I thank you for your kindness [deleted: unread] in writing to Mr Basella[?] of [deleted: unread] Schio, from whom, to my detriment, I have not seen the result. Your commercial reports will be welcome to me [deleted: unread], [unread]. [unread] the purchase [deleted: unread].
