Pronto sempre a' comandi vi distintamente vi riverisco.

Ancona, 19 February 1856
I owe you a reply to your esteemed letter of the 2nd of this month. For a few days I have had two samples of valonia ready to send you: one of Candia quality priced at 28 [currency], and the other of Scalanova at 27 [currency], with time to pay or a discount. However, I find it difficult to find a carrier coming directly to you. Please tell me by return post whether I can send them to someone in Bologna, whom you would then ask to forward them to you.
The Bagno Verni affair is still unsettled. It cannot be concluded definitively until the dividends that the other bankrupt firms can pay are known, since their debts and credits are intertwined.
Some lots of cream of tartar have been sold here even at 15.50 [currency] per hundred; buying is quieter today, however. Today's price of leather is 18½ to 19 [currency], with the usual time to pay or discount, but buyers are few.
Always ready to receive your orders, I respectfully greet you.

Notes
The darker text below the signature is a separate revised draft reply. Cancellations, insertions, unfinished connections and the lower addition are retained; locally unread abbreviations are not expanded into invented sentences. The draft word ricusabile is translated literally; its preceding connection is unclear. Cremore at 15.50 is distinct from the following Corame at 18½–19. Cream of tartar is the contextual translation of cremore, whose modern compound and tanning use are described by Treccani: https://www.treccani.it/vocabolario/cremore/. No chemical grade is specified in the letter. The manuscript currency signs remain unidentified. Il % is rendered per hundred without asserting an underlying weight unit. D.to and abbreviated personal names are retained without an inferred expansion.
