Notes
Nap. and Nap.i are retained as written without identifying or converting the currency. Mazze is retained as the trade unit; the manuscript separately specifies seventeen bales. The adjective following Tratte is not securely read; the former Spadognate is not asserted. F.li is retained as a signature abbreviation without choosing sons or brothers. The recipient draft contains readable cancellations and insertions as well as unresolved interlinear wording. The draft amount remains uncertain at its first digit; it is not changed to match the incoming invoice. The final sentence ends unfinished.

With your kind letter you [cancelled: send me] [inserted: return to me] my four bills amounting [cancelled: illegible] to Nap.i [497.08?], [cancelled: bearing] [inserted: honoured with] your acceptance, payable six months after date, dated the 13th of this month [cancelled: which concerns]. At maturity they will serve [inserted: as] settlement of [illegible] the leather sent to you with Captain Ghezzo. I do not doubt at all that you will be satisfied with its quality, as with the [cancelled: result]. If you will believe in [inserted: my] friendship, [cancelled: Sincere] I assure you of the unavoidable increase in the price of these goods.
[Inserted: illegible; the increase; illegible; Romagna.]
This is owing to no whim or speculation, [illegible] [cancelled: illegible], but to a definite scarcity of hides because of the meagre slaughtering [cancelled: by the butchers] [inserted: the illegible] [unfinished ending].
