Bologna, 28 November 1855.
Regarding your always welcome letter of the 10th of this month, I have only now been able to send you the bale of horse leather, because of the negligence of the carrier Guerra. Although notified several times, he only came yesterday to collect it. Accordingly, [illegible], please obtain it from him shortly and credit me with £18.24, as itemized below.
I am expecting large, first-quality Muscovy cowhide leather, weighing from 57 to 60 of your pounds, no later than this week or at the beginning of the next one. You know how much the price of this merchandise has risen. Only to maintain our valued relationship could I let you have five to six bolli at £45 per hundred in metallic money, for cash, selling them at the invoice price.
All this is for your information. Awaiting your reply, I offer my respects with particular esteem.
Pietro Tironi, successor to
the firm Paolo Bernardi

English translation
Although in my preceding letter of 30 November I told you not to send me the cowhide leather you offered, if it is [illegible], as I believe it may be, and you can send it to me at £44 per hundred, provided it weighs no more than 53 pounds per bollo, preferably less, you could send me two bolli so that I can decide whether to take the other few bolli you offered. As for the smaller cowhide leather, tell me its origin [illegible] and price. With respects.
Tironi, 10 December.
