Lugo, 31 May 1858.
In reply to your kind letter of the 28th of last month, I wish you to bear in mind the extension of payment you have been accustomed to granting me for the cream of tartar. By doing so you will oblige me to maintain my business relationship with you. As for the price, I leave it to your fairness. Once you agree to the difference in the payment period, I shall send you the container to put it in.
Awaiting your kind reply, I remain yours respectfully,
Alessandro Brunoni
P.S. Having considered my interest more closely, I need you to be kind enough to grant me the extension with half due at the end of August and half at the end of September. I believe that you will oblige me.
The same.

Notes

The reply draft writes Li 6.o Maggio without a year. Its month precedes the incoming 31 May dateline; the literal date is retained without substituting June. The separate docket contains 6: Giug, preceded by an unresolved abbreviation.
The physical tear interrupts aggradim in the reply. Readable canceled passages and inserted phrases remain marked separately; the torn letters are not restored.
The incoming writes colocarlo, retained without correcting its spelling.
