Notes
Vacchette denotes prepared cowhide leather. The English renders the trade designation as vegetable-tanned cowhides. The manuscript abbreviation Pa and the currency-shaped mark rendered as £ are retained. The sign % denotes per hundred; no unstated unit or currency conversion is supplied. The glyph £ is not an identification as pounds sterling. The abbreviated ven.e with inserted mi is read in context as previously sold to the writer; the source abbreviation and insertion are preserved.

Bologna, 3 October 1856
I have received your letter of yesterday. The six vegetable-tanned cowhides priced at Pa 43 per hundred are the same as those sent to Mr Guerzi. They come from Tuscany and were finished here. I have spoken to the owner, our friend, who tells me that he has no difficulty taking them back, since he can still sell them for a higher price.
As I told you, the others are leather from elsewhere, and I also sent some of these to the aforementioned Mr Guerzi at £ 40 per hundred. As he was here yesterday, I spoke to him about the two from the Galerotti factory, which I had not yet offered. He let me know that he would take these back, but not the other four, since they are the same as those previously sold to me and sent to Mr Guerzi.
Please return the above-mentioned goods to me if you wish; there are eight hides in all. Warm regards,
Filippo Stiassi
