Faenza, 20 March 1861

In reply to your letter of the 18th of this month: in my last letter I had informed you that I would give you two additional bales of thin sole leather in advance. As for my word, you may be certain that I would not have failed to keep it. Since I see that you do not trust me, I shall therefore [...] in place of those bales. When I forward the whole consignment to you, I shall wait for payment until you have first received the goods.

Today, sole leather is priced at [...]20; I will not sell it to anyone for less than £20. As for [...], a house in Sinigaglia [...] £25 per [...] [800?] pieces (cash payment, collected from my factory), to be delivered next June. You can therefore see that I have given you a very good bargain.

Please tell me also in your reply whether I should send you the sole leather sold to you with the man who was with you when you came to my factory.

With warm regards,
Carlo Poletti
