Notes

The cowhide quantity Dieci is tentative; fifty and the cash price £40 are readable. Salatte retains the manuscript spelling and is rendered as salted; no named origin is assigned.
Ho d’uopo valermi is readable. C.te is retained literally without expansion. The last bill clause retains its unexplained p.o/fC.te abbreviations and the original ambiguous pronoun, without supplying a maturity, denomination or payment mechanism.
Bazzane in the lower draft is rendered as half-tanned sheepskins. £ preserves the manuscript currency glyph without identifying pounds sterling or a modern denomination.

[Embossed letterhead: GIUSEPPE VIGNOLI / FORLI]
Mr Sam. B.º Finzi, called Magrini
Ferrara
Forlì, 14 September 1856
I confirm my letter of yesterday, which advised you of the shipment of various hides. As for my salted cowhides, of which I sent you [ten?] yesterday, the other fifty I had were sold immediately afterwards for the good price of £40, cash without discount. Thus I cannot send you any more at present. Payment by your bill would not have suited me and still does not.
Perhaps this could be arranged for the calfskins of which I sent you a sample. I shall send the rest of your order as soon as I can. Please be aware that I need to make use of C.te. However, if it suits you better, send me your [p.o?] bill on Bologna [fC.te?]; I am not short of it.
This is for your information. With no more to add, I send you my greetings.
For the Vignoli firm

English translation

In reply to your two letters of the 13th and 14th of this month, [deleted: ...] your first shipment of various hides: for the salted cowhides and the black sheepskins, I credit you £107:18:6, [deleted: ...] more in proportion to [...], B.chi10. I cannot do the same for the salted calfskins and goatskins: the former because they are [small?] and [...] light; the goatskins because they are unusable.
I [...] such quality of hides, which [deleted: ...] [...] at my price. Therefore [deleted: ...] [Grutta?] of [...] [deleted: ...], [Solle?] £[...]:38:6.
I hear [...] that you cannot [deleted: ...] fulfil my order with salted cowhides, having them all [...]. What most displeases me is seeing that at the same time you sent Mr Bianchini a much greater quantity of sheepskins. [Deleted: ...] Enough of that. Subsequently [deleted: the bales], please [make me an offer?] for the sheepskins [...].

Notes

Both recipient draft blocks are upside down relative to the delivery address and are retained separately. The labels refer to the sheet rotated for reading. Source insertions are incorporated at their caret positions; legible cancelled words and illegible deletions remain marked.
The first amount reads 107:18:6. The numeral before :38:6 in the second amount is heavily overwritten and remains unreadable. Several heavily revised draft clauses also remain uncertain. Numbers are not reconciled or converted. Bianchini is retained as a documentary surname without identification.
The lower draft gives the unpunctuated weight figure 276, with its unit uncertain. The comparative Este and folla readings and two insertions remain tentative; the final courteous intention is proposed rather than asserted.

[...] I find your work much inferior to what I obtain from [Este?], also because of its light weight; whereas [deleted: that; inserted: ...] at [folla?], as I told you, they weigh 276 [...] per bale [inserted: proprie?], because [...] paid [...]. Dear friend, please send me the salted half-tanned sheepskins and black sheepskins as soon as you can [...]; [I would welcome them?].
