posta in mia Fabbrica, Cassa senza sconto.
Sante Poletti
Notes
Alla piana is retained as a technical designation whose precise sense is unresolved. Passata is rendered as setting aside the unsuitable offer, as the following sentence proposes a different weight and bale quantity. The short phrase a Rotta and the comparative description proposed as Tralenta remain uncertain. The customer surname Turgi is a literal tentative reading, without identification. The dateline and separate filing note both clearly give 1862, superseding the older 1852 transcription. The arrival mark independently ends 62; the overlapped dispatch year is tentative. The currency sign and source 22:50/% notation are preserved without conversion or identification of denomination. Bologna weight is not converted to a modern standard.

I did not promptly answer your latest letter of the 9th of this month, as I was away from Faenza. If the thin sole leather [alla piana] does not suit you, I shall gladly set it aside. I can prepare it [a Rotta?], weighing 44 pounds per piece in Bologna weight, with five bales of 18 pieces each instead of two bales. The goods are well tanned, well worked, light in colour and sound, made from first-quality Odessa hide, at the reduced price of [currency mark] 22:50 per hundred in Bologna measure, at my factory, cash without discount. I guarantee the goods I shall send you as a friend. In May I supplied Mr [Turgi?] with 300 pieces of goods that were more [...], at a higher price. Awaiting a prompt reply, I send you my cordial greetings.
