l'altra lb 3 circa perciò ho fatto venire solamente pel mio

Bologna, 16 October 1854
From your dear letter of the 13th of this month, I understand that you would like a sample [the following words are unclear]. I have white leather, but it is not [the designation “Moltreno?” is uncertain], because it comes from Germany at a high price and with such a weight that each skin [verb uncertain] weighs about 3 lb. I therefore had some brought in only for my own needs, and no more, because it costs a great deal; it cannot be sold by everyone because of the price. The ruin of this article is the contraband goods, which they sell off at 28 bajocchi per lb: not only the white leather, but also the “Noce di Moscovia”. They take these latter goods to country houses, and our profession is sacrificed. As for your saying that I sent you some of that small white leather in Ferrara to your taste, you are mistaken, because [the time/service clause is unclear]. [Final connecting words unclear] with esteem I greet you.
