Bologna, 22 October 1860.
I am replying to your three kind letters, the latest of yesterday. If I did not reply [at once?], it was because I lacked what you were asking for; I wanted to have something to tell you, as I now do. In eight days I shall be able to [offer?] you 10 or 20 pieces of black leather made from domestic hides, from [weight mark] 20 to 22, the first [grade?; abbreviation uncertain]. I cannot let you have this for less than [currency mark] 25.50 A f. [abbreviation], like the last lot. As for the other calf leather, from 20 to 22, the first [grade?], I cannot let this go for less than [currency mark] 26 A f., [alla senza cucione: wording uncertain]. At present I am out of the kind from [weight mark] 28 to 30, as a gentleman from Ascoli has taken everything I found at [currency mark] 26 A f. [Further leather description uncertain: senza fondo e manuba fina.] I have a lot of fine domestic leather from Imola at [currency mark] 33.50 A f.; I also have [weight mark] 50 of French leather, which costs [currency mark] 31.40 A [mark]. Of the former I can supply 100. This is all I can tell you, while awaiting [text lost with paper], the usual [closing continues in the left margin].
[Left margin] With esteem I offer my respects; Cesare Monari.
