Forlì, 14 June 1856.
In reply to your esteemed letter of the 12th of this month, I am very sorry to have replied to you concerning
the stockings in question, since I believed I had made you a generous
allowance and was fully convinced I would find you
reasonable. Enough: to put an end to this tiresome outstanding
matter as well, I shall allow you another scudo, to show you
that I am making a very great sacrifice here; accordingly
I have debited you with only £49. Meanwhile I inform
you that today, through the usual carrier Granellini, I have
sent you the hides listed below, for which you will kindly
credit me with £38.20, quite certain
that you will be entirely satisfied with everything.
The Budriè [leather term retained] I mentioned in my preceding
letter is for a saddler: it is used chiefly
for saddles and horse harness. It will weigh from
10 to 11 pounds per hide, and I can let you have it
at 34 bajocchi per pound. It is also known by the name
of French leather. This is for your guidance, and,
[closing abbreviations partly unclear], I greet you,
for the firm G. Rigoli
[signature mark]
No. 50 Mont. [abbreviation retained], greased, 131 lb, at 16 bajocchi: £20.96.
No. 40 Bazz.e [abbreviation retained], [sapuola?: word uncertain], 103¼ lb, at 16: £16.53.
Carriage paid: 0.71.
£38.20.
