Mon cher ami

je connais trop l'attachement que tu nous
porte pour retarder a te faire part d'une
bonne nouvelle. anna vient d'accoucher
très heureusement d'un garçon. je n'ai pas
vu de delivrance plus prompte. les douleurs
n'ont pas duré cinq heures. j'ai été
inquiet un instant je craignais que
l'accoucheur et la garde n'arrivassent pas
a tems pour recevoir l'enfant. il va
bien ainsi que la mere.

recevez toi et Jeanne tous
nos Embrassements. fais part
En mon nom, a toute la famille, de la
nouvelle que je te transmet.

Nisme, 7 February 1839

My dear friend,

I know your affection for us too well to delay telling you some good news. Anna has just given birth very successfully to a boy. I have never seen a quicker delivery. The pains did not last five hours. For a moment I was anxious, fearing that the accoucheur and the attendant would not arrive in time to receive the child. He is well, as is his mother.

You and Jeanne receive all our embraces. Tell the whole family the news I am passing on to you, on my behalf.
