Faenza li 14 Febbraro 1856.
In quanto poi

Faenza, 14 February 1856.
In prompt reply to your always welcome letter of the 11th of this month, I am entirely out of the items you ask me for in it at present. As for Mr Monti, to the best of my knowledge, when he began manufacturing cream of tartar in past years, barrel tartar was available at favourable prices. He then processed a great deal of it, almost all of which was shipped to Trieste. Now that tartar is expensive, they process little of it because they find it unprofitable. Indeed, there is a lot of tartar here in town which they have declined for the moment, saying that they still find no advantage in it and that they also have some small quantities on hand.
I do not presently know their selling prices to druggists, since our town is supplied by only a few barrels. If I subsequently learn the prices, I shall report them to you. That is what I know as of today. Where I can be of service, command me, and I pay you my respects.
Yours, Giovanni Chiarini.

English translation

[Recipient's reply draft, referring to the letter of the 14th:] Thank you for what you report about the situation [in which?] the cream-of-tartar works there find themselves. Hearing that a lot of tartar is available there, or rather the lot in question, I would appreciate it if, as a kindness, you would send me just a sample with the price the owner asks for it, letting me know who owns it so as not to cause you further trouble. Meanwhile, not doubting that you will oblige me, I offer you my thanks in advance, etc.
