Mainz, [24?] October 1806
It is over: I shall no longer tell you any news now that the Moniteur gives us one bulletin after another. You have surely already had the [one unclear word] 12th and 13th [otherwise?] this one, [one unclear word]. [I shall?] afterwards find out where to get them.
You will therefore see in the Gazette the appointment of receivers-general as regents of the Bank. Perhaps there are only three of them and a few [Bourretet?], Guyton and various others are making [uncertain word: “fournemens”?]?
Here is a bill on Monsieur [Auder?] which I had had accepted by Clair. But Monsieur [Mainier?], director of our forage supplies, maintains that Messrs Catoire, [Mingant?] and Féron, the negotiators, must also accept it. Here is his note. I have represented to him in vain that &c. He maintains that &c and asks me [mechanically?] to have [crossed out: the bill] a [“factoire”?] presented. [Please?] accordingly [crossed out: one word] [take charge of?] this commission and send the answer.
My brother-in-law Armand, who has returned without having been able to see you, told me that Lolo was ill in hospital when he left Paris. Is it true, and what is this illness? No doubt some gallantry of the fair sex of La Coquette. Tell me something about it, please, and scold him severely for me, I beg you, if I have guessed correctly.
I have no news of [Ovi?], [your?] good lad. I shall go and fetch my wife next week. You perhaps think Mainz very cheerful; well, [unclear words, possibly crossed out] [unclear words, possibly crossed out] like a nightcap.
Here are your little &c [not reaching me?]; in any case, I have had no need of them until now, but after all I would rather have them in my cupboard [a few unclear words] deposit.
