Exemplaires du C[om]pte de la Caisse d’Épargne aussitôt après l’assemblée G.le ;
200. [Gauguiller?]
340. [Primes Champagne?]
300. [Ler[...]?]
} 5 % : 89.80 : bordereau joint
[Ajout dans la marge gauche]
Je vois par le J[ourn]al que
le préfet l’est aussi, n’en
parlez donc qu’à vos collègues
et à mes amis, je ne me
soucierais guère d’être mis
aussi dans le Journal.

Paris, 7 May 1831.
Mr [Lamb?] gives me a final credit of 1,325 francs 65 centimes as at 30 April. See his January account [uncertain accounting abbreviations], settled. Make the corresponding entries if this has not already been done and send me back the enclosed [account statement?].
Mr Haas, whose letter I am sending you, offers to have all my payments in [Colmar?] made through Mr Marcon senior, the paying agent in that town, at half a franc per hundred [abbreviation, probably commission]. Accordingly, on these terms you may draw on Mr Haas, payable at Mr Marcon senior’s in Colmar, for the drafts you will have to issue on that town.
Tell Dejean not to forget to ask Mr [Revert?] for ten copies of the Savings Bank’s account immediately after the general meeting. He will send me six copies here and keep the other four.
I do not want to leave you unaware that, by an ordinance of 29 April, the King has been pleased, on the minister’s proposal (the minister informed me in a very kind letter), to appoint me an officer of the Legion of Honour.
Credit Mr J. G. [Hermann?] with 50 francs for petty cash, under my order of the 2nd, payable to the order of [Travis?], without notice.
Messrs [Rouspeaud?] had made a further distribution of ten per cent [in the bankruptcy?]. Please send me the letters. The refinery will remain to cover the balance; it would have to sell for 120,000 francs for payment in full; one might well hope for that, since it cost 300,000 francs, but buyers are scarce. Yesterday I sent you a prospectus for the sale of [Jenneville?]; you can put it at the disposal of anyone who might be interested.
You will doubtless have received directly from [Chaudot?] the notice of the purchase of 780 francs in 3 per cent annuities [uncertain account name] at 62.37½. Here are: 200, [Gauguiller?]; 340, [Primes Champagne?]; 300, [uncertain name]. 5 per cent: 89.80; statement enclosed.
[Addition in the left margin]
I see in the paper that the prefect is one too. So speak of it only to your colleagues and my friends. I would hardly care to see myself in the paper as well.
Notes
Documentary annotation: a? [underlined, at the upper left] The marginal note accompanies the news of the Legion of Honour. The writer asks that word of the appointment be kept to his correspondent’s colleagues and his own friends. In the letter of 9 May he explicitly identifies Marcon as the paying agent at Colmar. The final credit of 1,325 francs 65 centimes as at 30 April agrees with both reckonings in NRA-L-000873.

envoyez.

English translation
Here is a letter for [Delaroche Delessert?]; have it copied, credit [the account], and send it.
I have received your letter of yesterday.
Tell Mr Giffard that he is mistaken, that I can very well draw on the Treasury, to relieve the [common?] fund, on other paying agents, some drafts at [Caen?]; but no matter, the Treasury will accept them likewise.
You remit 10,000 francs to me on Gontard, which I am sending [to Amsterdam?].
A thousand kind regards.
[Henry?]
