Letter opening and marginal calculation - Paris, 30 April 1831

English translation

Paris, 30 April 1831.

I have asked the Treasury to return the Girard bill for 2,000 francs to Paris. Here is another, which they at last give me reason to hope will be paid at maturity. You will enter it in place of the other when it is returned to you, and in about a month it will be possible to discount it at the Treasury.
[Chaulet?] has bought the 5,000 francs [abbreviated qualifier: dem.?] of rente at 86.45 francs.
Here is this letter from Mr Gaillard of Eure-et-Loir. You see that it concerned a remittance to the Treasury against a draft on me, which I authorized at fifteen days from its date. This is very different from [his remittance?]. Please give me a copy of your letter in reply.
The suppliers for the [crossed-out word; addition: contract?] of [Moreau?] have organized themselves definitively. They have finally fixed 15 February as the date for settling all the accounts. It will therefore be necessary to prepare a supplementary interest account carrying all the sums subsequent to the last settlement made on 10 November, including the subsequent interest.
Is that not so? Nothing has been entered in Louis Marchand junior’s account since 1829, and the account still shows a debit of 7,500 francs.
Is it not the case that you settled Louis Marchand senior’s account with 668 francs on 1 January 1831, and what has been entered in 1831?
Reply in separate letters.
Here are certificates of inscription in Mr Rideau’s name. Mr [Fouqueron?] asks Mr [Mondary?] to collect the interest on his account. You will give me the statement, and I will [pay?].

[Calculation in the left margin]
6,545.60
5,877.60
Difference: 668.

Letter continuation and closing paraph - 30 April 1831

Original transcript

[paraphe]

Letter continuation and closing paraph - 30 April 1831

English translation

Tell him that if the mayor speaks to him again about putting my name at the head of the suppliers of Rouen for the [abbreviation: Eff.?] [of the first quarter?], he is to say that this is impossible. Having supplied here, we must settle this matter directly with the Receiver General. Besides, we have already made much larger advances. I regret being unable to consent to what he wants.
[This afternoon?] The Syndicat, besides the credit of 100,000 francs which it announces to you, has just received another 150,000 francs on its account at the Treasury. Do finally make the entries, once and for all, dated 30 April.
I have received your letter of the 29th of this month.
I still see very small bills falling due, but send them. They are return remittances all the same, and for my own account.
I see your remittance to Mr Godot.
I shall reply to [Delpiau?].
Certainly, a tricolour flag is needed, [no?] other one in [velvet?], and [overwritten word] [Justin?] will have some painted in any case if they cannot be bought on suitable terms, or while waiting for you to [press?] the supplier.
Yours entirely.
[paraph]
