Paris, 28 April 1831.
I have received your letter of yesterday. The [f.?] St. Albin are indeed to be entered through petty cash, provided he [reimburses?] your collections directly.
I hope the signatories of drafts for the King’s timber cuttings will not take their money to [Decaenmay?], whom everyone says is bankrupt, but will naturally bring it to you. [Decaenmay?] or their fellow timber merchants will tell them to come to you. You will then have to send them to the Bank. This means endless coming and going. Until now timber-cutting drafts had never been put at the Bank [additional negative inserted]. It would be good to continue that practice for the drafts in question. However, if the bills are already at the bank, you will have to limit yourself to sending the subscribers there. Have yourself informed in time of any protests, because these instruments themselves carry special privileges for their holders.
Nothing concerning the [entries?] in the account of General [Henri?].
You may accept Mr [Gideau?] of Chartres’s unsigned letter. It had indeed been agreed [word crossed out] between him and me that he would ask me for repayment of 25,000 francs through Rouen, at a short date. I replied that I would give it to him

Documentary annotation: Flag and celebration. Documentary annotation: [small undeciphered mark] The opening abbreviation and reimbursement verb are tentative, as are some personal names. The sentence about the bank contains an inserted second negative.

at 15 days. His proposal [addition: of the 25th] is different.
However, since I shall give no form of acceptance and will pay his order only at maturity, or at most on the day before, write to him that I am receiving his order for [52.25?] as commission on the draft.
I shall [word crossed out] have to discharge the order for 25,000 francs [word crossed out; addition: to me], [advice?] drawn on Leboeuf, at its maturity on 8 June, which he will present to me when due. I will do so then if you find that the funds are coming in. Nevertheless, I shall [word crossed out] refuse to commit myself to this in advance through any form of acceptance. I had only undertaken to issue an order at 15 days against payment of cash in Rouen, as had been requested. You can moreover [agree?]. You see [word crossed out] that his letter is unsigned.
A thousand friendly wishes, [Després?].
Notes
The commission is probably52.25; the second digit and the abbreviated advice designation are tentative. Payment at maturity or one day earlier is distinguished from advance acceptance.
