Letter with damaged right edge - Paris, 24 April 1831
English translation
Paris, 24 April 1831.
Mr [Gris?] [crossed-out word], who is away, writes that he will return around 10 May and will pay on arrival into [damaged right edge] my brother’s hands. To settle this item of 150 francs, you need only debit Louis Reiset’s account.
I have received your letter of yesterday.
As to [Beaumonville?], I noticed that your error arose [damaged right edge] because you thought that there had been a payment after [damaged right edge] the one of 12,442.46 on 28 March, whereas it was to that payment that the receipt I sent you related.
As soon as you have news of the bill for 1,900 francs which you sent to Mr Roy, I should be obliged if you would tell me.
I shall note in Chaulet’s account the payment of 2,471.63 from Mr [Desvilliers?] [damaged right edge].
I see Mr Jaune’s [abbreviation uncertain] for 99,836.77. See the numbers on the back [damaged right edge]. Do these drafts bear my payment address, or Mr [Demiaunay?]’s, or someone else’s? That would cause difficulties for collection.
I see dispatch No. 54.
Mr Lefort’s rent does indeed run from 1 January, but I agreed to the termination as of 1 April. If the amount is therefore agreed, there would be no objection to giving a receipt in full settlement.
I see little risk in collecting payment orders drawn on suppliers within my reach or that of the general receivers. I therefore prefer you to reply that I shall handle this and credit him at maturity, and [remit…; damaged right edge] payment orders with value at maturity, but with a commission of one-half per cent for all expenses. You will add what you would say about the registered securities for the costs of [recovery proceedings?].
This is quite different from Lalande’s [125?] small payment orders, all of which you were quite right [damaged edge] to return.
[paraph at foot]
Notes
