Unpaid bills, annuities and Rouen’s subscription — Paris, 15 April 1831

The writer asks Moulainy to check three unpaid bills and reports an annuity purchase for his brother. He asks whether a creditor’s share was included in the latest dividend and explains how the subscription by Rouen depends on the 120-million threshold in the king’s ordinance.

English translation

Paris, 15 April 1831.

Comparing Mr Mondary’s list of Moreau’s unpaid bills with the statement which [I was sending?] to Mr Moreau in a letter of the 15th [abbreviation], I still find bills entered as unpaid:
135.45 francs due 30 [9bre?];
1000 due 30 [Xbre?];
2850 due 15 January last.
Please check whether these three bills have indeed been paid; I would have some doubts about the 1000-franc bill drawn on [Delauné?] due 30 [Xbre?]. Please check it with Moulainy and let me know by return of post.
Here are the statements for the [unwound?] carry-over transaction on 1500 francs of 3% and 5% annuities, transferred by [field left blank]; [crossed-out amount:28675?], 28750 to the debit of Chaulet.
Against this he purchased for my brother, on the account of the house of [H…?]:
540 francs of annuity — 9948.40;
He [receives?] — 18801.60.
Please tell me to whom you sent the 2000-franc bill [Girard?] due 30 April, already renewed once, which [crossed-out word] must be renewed again. At least try to avoid new charges.
Here is also a renewal of a bill for 911.85, for which I received 400 francs on account for petty cash and 523.85 in the two enclosed bills. Please make the entries accordingly.
Did the [Auvray?] liquidation include Mr [Ra…?]’s share in its payment of the last dividend? I do not remember it. Please tell me; he must be notified, and return the letter to me, as I have something to add to it.

English translation

I have received your letter of yesterday.
The terms in which Rouen’s subscription is framed should next be known, to establish how far a commitment has been made. Besides, there would be no obligation since the 120 million has not been reached, so whoever wishes may take up the offer made by the king’s ordinance. You will, however, receive instructions on this matter.
I have retained the [J…?] papers. Please have the enclosed letter from Mr [Béraud?] carried out at once.
A thousand good wishes, [signature: Meurez?].
Has anyone been proposed for [Maugy?]?
[Initials]
I do not see in the list for [Mr Gourdin?] a man named [Heriché?] who was so strongly recommended by everyone.
