Letter with financial instructions - Paris, 8 April 1831

English translation

Paris, 8 April 1831.

Here is a letter from Mr [Haas?]. I have answered him and notified him of the 116-franc credit. Put it in February, marking it as a credit and making the entry.
On the 6th you gave me a statement of the entries in the [General?]’s account in [1831?], but is there no other entry in 1830 besides these?
19 November, to [J.?] Chaulet, 1,500 to the debit;
8 December, [Bordeaux?] annuity, [value?] on 6 September, 500 to the credit.
These are the last [entries?] on the account statement I have.
Here is Chauvin’s account for March.
An accepted bill for 4,000 francs drawn on Chauvin of Marseille and payable in Paris falls due today. To whom did you hand it? It is important for me to know immediately so that I can learn the fate of this instrument.
[Crossed-out words]
Mr [Lema…?] has drawn on me a payment order for 875 francs payable on the 15th of this month, [to the order?] of my colleague in [uncertain department]. If it is presented, pay it and debit Mr [Gottler?]’s account.
Mr [Serrain?] has a bill for 500 francs drawn on Marseille to negotiate. Help him if he speaks to you about it. If he cannot place it under his own signature, you may take it and send it to Mr [Serrin?], my current colleague, and advance him about half the amount, which he writes that he needs, paying him the balance after collection.
How did he settle his security deposit? For this purpose I return the [circular?] of 6 April [1827/1807?], which I did not have in front of me.
I receive your letter of yesterday. I have not yet seen Mr [Anquetil?]. I see your instructions for Chaulet and shall tell him to accept the provisional method of purchasing. A thousand kind regards.
[A./H.?] Fontaine

English translation

[Continuation/additional writing]
Had handed the enclosed note to the Treasury; the Treasury sent it to me.
I agreed with Mr [Fontain?], who [crossed-out words] has plenty of funds, to receive two Bordeaux bonds and the receipts tomorrow on reliable terms. He could hold them on my account and draw on me, subject to ten days’ interest in my favour in [account abbreviation?].
Here is a letter from him and a receipt for 31,000 francs. This time I gave him an order on my cash office for 31,000 francs at seven days after sight, on which he will owe me ten days’ interest.
Please have a corresponding reply sent to him, notifying him of the credit for the receipt of 31,000 francs, value 18 April, and the debit, with value on the day of the order for the same sum which I gave him on Rouen.
[Paraph]

Notes

The receipt, order and credit are each for 31,000 francs. The credit value date is 18 April and the matching debit takes its value from the date of the Rouen order.
