English translation

Paris, 29 March 1831.

[Chaulet?] has already drawn 5000 francs for the 5th at a 5% profit, so he already has 80,850 francs secured for the liquidation; see his statement. Send me directly, without endorsing them to him, the short-term bills you will have ready for that date, and those dated 1 April [crossed out, replaced with: I shall enter], the maturities from the 2nd to the 4th at the Bank; I shall then have him collect directly only the maturities on the 5th. If bills of this kind arrive for the 2nd, you will then hand them directly to [Chaulet?], 2000 and upwards.
Here are 8828.37 in bills which I took [at the pay office?] at a discount of 6 per cent on 15 March, which I had paid by the Syndicate: 8000 francs initially entered in petty cash. Today I hand him 828.37, also through the Syndicate, in settlement of this matter.
Mr [Mennes?] tells me that Mr [Clerc?] had either 25 mf on Gontard or 60 mf on Jost sent to him, bearing the signature of the two houses [Sayès?] and [Kayser?]. I write to him that I can take only 30 mf of the latter, for these gentlemen are in a good position.
I have received your letter of yesterday with [the enclosed letters?]. I have also received Mr [Stabler?]’s letter. I shall reply about the doorman; kindly tell or write to Mr [Justin?], who is currently sleeping in the house, and ask him meanwhile to continue the search for a doorman.
The envelope of my letter from Sunday was reopened, I believe, at my house before I sent it.
Please send me a new statement of the Moreau account, settled as at 31 March, but only from the last settlement, which I think was on 10 November 1830. A thousand friendly wishes, [initials].

The figure in the margin differs from the amount in the text. The wording before the six-per-cent discount may designate a pay office. Its identification and the names of the two firms are uncertain.
